How/Where will you use the Golf Cart?
Identifying how you’ll be using your golf cart is very important. There are two main categories to choose from: Standard Golf Carts for personal/golf use versus Commercial/Industrial use.
Standard Golf Carts generally hold two to four people (we custom stretch golf carts for up to 6 people) and are typically used for personal use – getting around a home, yard, neighborhood, campground, or community.
Commercial/Industrial models often used for “utility” purposes – hauling tools, parts, equipment etc. These vehicles are often have stronger engines, heavier suspensions, larger tires, and can carry bigger payloads.
Electric vs. Gas Golf Cart?
Electric Golf Carts operate using a bank of standard lead-acid batteries (36v-48v). They’re designed for use all day (10-30+ mile range per charge), then recharged at night. Electric cars are quieter, often less costly to purchase as well as easier and less expensive to operate/maintain than gas powered golf carts.
Gas Golf Carts give you a greater range and may provide more power for carrying heavy loads. This makes them a good choice for long expeditions, hunting/farming use, security patrols, or using for extended periods of time without the ability to recharge the batteries. Gas carts produce much more noise, typically emit an exhaust odor, and can be dirty to operate.
What features are important?
Common features that can be added to a golf cart are: stationary rear seats, rear flip seats, dump cargo boxes, cargo beds, extended tops (80-116”), head lights, tail lights, windshields, seat covers, seat belt kits, custom paint jobs, and more. We customize carts on-site and can get as intricate as you desire: lift kits, upgraded tires/wheels, customized paint work, stereo/MP3/Satellite players, performance enhancements, and more. What budget is needed for a golf cart?
Typically, expect to pay within a range of price from $1500 to $4500+ for used or reconditioned and $5000 to $8000.00+ for brand-new. Variables that affect this price range include: new vs. used, the brand of cart, gas vs. electric, the age of the cart, how much reconditioning is needed or has already been performed, and the various options/accessories added to the vehicle.
What is a “Reconditioned” Golf Cart vs. “Used” Golf Cart?
Reconditioned carts are completely dismantled down to the frame and built back from the ground up. The process includes:
- Removing of all body and trim components from the frame
- Degreasing, compounding and cleaning of all body parts
- Degreasing the entire cart
- Acid washing of the entire frame and suspension
- Repainting of all cup holders and trim components
- Priming and painting of all front and rear suspension components
- Inspection of all electrical connections
- Load testing and grading of battery bank (batteries must pass 60 minute load test – minimum of 60 minutes)
- Inspection of all battery terminals and leads
- Computer diagnostic test – check for system faults and drive history
- Brake test and adjustment/replacement
- Cleaning of all upholstery replacement of any cracked/damaged/stained upholstery
- Full lubrication of suspension
- Refinishing (polishing-if requested) of all exposed aluminum trim components
- Replacement of worn/uneven tires
A “used” golf cart is an “As-Is” sale and involves none of the steps taken with reconditioning a golf cart.
